Parents and Caregivers

About Therapy for Parents and Caregivers

Sessions with parents and caregivers are generally an important part of therapy with children.  Parents and caregivers are welcome to access parent support sessions without child involvement as well.

Therapy with parents and caregivers can help

  • Build a foundation for your child’s healthy development
  • Find new ways to connect with your child
  • Strengthen your relationship with your child
  • Recognize the complexities of your child’s responses to stress and trauma
  • Identify and respond to your child’s needs in an emotionally attuned manner
  • Help your child cope with and express emotions
  • Support your child to move back into regulation after experiencing distressing or overwhelming emotions
  • Explore how your own history influences your parenting
  • Attune to what is working well and build from there

Adults

Individual therapy provides the time and space for you to work toward your goals at a therapeutic level.

Children

Therapy with children may involve a combination of family, parent/caregiver, and individual child sessions.
